Paris – Cologne Güzergah Özeti
Travel from Paris to Cologne by high-speed Eurostar in as little as 3 hours 20 minutes. This Continental Eurostar service — formerly branded as Thalys — operates red TGV PBKA trains at up to 300 km/h across three countries: France, Belgium, and Germany. Five direct trains run daily from Paris Gare du Nord to Köln Hbf.
The route follows high-speed lines through northern France (LGV Nord, 300 km/h), Belgium (HSL 1, 300 km/h), and the Liège–Aachen corridor (HSL 3, 260 km/h, opened December 2009). Intermediate stops include Brussels Midi, the architecturally stunning Liège Guillemins station (designed by Santiago Calatrava), and Aachen — Charlemagne’s historic capital.
Unlike Channel Eurostar services to London, Continental routes require no check-in, no security screening, and no passport control. Simply arrive at the station, find your platform, and board. Three classes are available: Standard (from €35), Plus (from €79), and Premier (from €135, with lounge access and flexible tickets).

Simply walk to the platform and board. This route is entirely within the Schengen Area.
Formerly Thalys — Same Route, New Brand
Thalys merged with Eurostar in October 2023. The red TGV PBKA trains and routes remain identical. Class names were updated in November 2024: Comfort 1/2/Premium became Standard/Plus/Premier. If you see old “Thalys” references online, they refer to the same service.
Three Countries, One Ticket
This train crosses France, Belgium, and Germany on a single ticket. All three are in the Schengen Area, so there are no border stops or passport checks during the journey.
Liège Guillemins — Architectural Masterpiece
The train stops at Liège Guillemins, designed by Santiago Calatrava. Its soaring glass and steel canopy is considered one of the world’s most beautiful railway stations. Worth a stopover.
Cologne Cathedral at the Station
Köln Hbf sits directly beside the Cologne Cathedral (Kölner Dom), a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The twin Gothic spires are visible the moment you step off the train.
DB ICE Alternative
Deutsche Bahn ICE trains also serve the Brussels–Cologne section with approximately hourly frequency. ICE trains offer a restaurant car and bicycle spaces. Eurostar includes seat reservation in the ticket price.
HSL 3 — High-Speed Through Belgium
The high-speed line HSL 3 between Liège and Aachen, opened in December 2009, shortened the journey by 19 minutes. Trains reach 260 km/h on this section.
Gateway to the Rhine
From Cologne, the Rhine Valley with its castles, vineyards, and river cruises is easily accessible. Connections to Bonn (20 min), Düsseldorf (25 min), and Frankfurt (1h) by DB ICE.
