iryo

iryo is Spain's newest private high-speed rail operator, a joint venture between Trenitalia (51%), Air Nostrum (25%), and Globalvia (24%). Launched in November 2022, iryo operates Italian-designed Frecciarossa 1000 trains connecting Madrid with Barcelona, Valencia, Seville, Málaga, and Alicante at speeds up to 360 km/h.

Inicial is economy class with 2+2 seating. Inicial Superior adds flexibility and luggage options. Infinita is first class with spacious 2+1 XL leather seats. Infinita Bistró is the premium class with at-seat dining from the Haizea gastronomic experience, welcome drinks, and wines with Designation of Origin — all included in the fare.

Yes. All iryo trains provide free 5G WiFi and every seat has both a power socket and USB port in all four classes. There is also an entertainment portal for streaming films, series, and music from your mobile device.

Infinita Bistró passengers receive the full Haizea dining experience at their seat with set menus of traditional Spanish dishes, D.O. wines, and a welcome drink. Other classes can visit the café carriage for tapas, espressos, and snacks, or pre-order the Market Menu (Inicial Superior and above). A refreshment trolley also passes through the train.

Quite strict for Inicial class — only a small hand bag and one cabin bag allowed. If you have a suitcase, book Inicial Superior (€10 extra for a suitcase), Infinita (suitcase included), or Infinita Bistró (suitcase included plus a second for €10). All luggage goes through X-ray scanning at Spanish high-speed stations.

Children under 4 travel free on an adult's lap but require a zero-fare ticket (a Spanish requirement for all high-speed trains). Children aged 4–13 may receive reduced fares depending on the booking channel. Children aged 14 and above pay the adult fare. Large families receive 20% or 50% discounts with valid documentation.

Yes, since April 2025. A compulsory seat reservation costs €10 for 2nd class or €13 for 1st class. Reservations can only be booked at iryo travel desks at Spanish train stations — they cannot be made online.

Every iryo ticket includes free Cercanías (commuter train) connections in the city of departure up to 4 hours before your iryo train, and in the arrival city up to 4 hours after arrival. Simply show your iryo QR code at the Cercanías turnstiles in Madrid and Barcelona.

For delays of 60–119 minutes, iryo provides 25% of the ticket price as compensation. For delays of 120 minutes or more, you receive 50% of the ticket price. In case of cancellation, a full refund is provided.
