About Trenitalia

Trenitalia is Italy's national train operator and a subsidiary of Ferrovie dello Stato Italiane (FS Group). Its flagship Frecciarossa ('Red Arrow') high-speed service operates 246+ daily connections across Italy, reaching speeds of 300 km/h on dedicated high-speed lines. Major Italian cities including Milan, Rome, Florence, Venice, Naples, Turin, and Bologna are connected by frequent direct services running from early morning to late evening.

The Frecciarossa fleet comprises four train types: the ETR 1000 (flagship, Pininfarina-designed interior, 457 seats), the ETR 500 (workhorse, 574 seats), the ETR 600 (tilting Pendolino, 432 seats), and the ETR 700 (497 seats). Trains with ETR 1000 and ETR 500 configurations offer four travel classes -- Standard, Premium, Business, and Executive -- while ETR 600 and 700 trains offer three classes.

Trenitalia has expanded internationally since December 2021, operating Frecciarossa services in France with 14 daily return trips between Paris and Lyon, direct Paris-Milan service via Turin, and Paris-Marseille via Avignon and Aix-en-Provence. Future international routes include Rome-Munich (planned 2026, with Deutsche Bahn and OBB) and Paris-London via the Channel Tunnel (planned 2029).
